Wednesday 9th June, Church Hall of St Peter and St Paul’s Church, 4pm to 9pm, In Person
The 4th Oxford Scout Group has over 100 members. The Scout Group needs its own Scout Hut to continue its activities.
The Scout Group needs to meet five nights a week, it needs facilities that work for it, it needs facilities it can afford.
The Scout Group had a purpose-built Scout Hut, but North Hinksey Parish Council terminated their tenancy.
If the Scout Group is given a long term lease it can raise the funds to do the renovation work required. This is much cheaper than trying to build a whole new scout hut elsewhere.
Under the proposed New Pavilion, which has yet to be built, and is yet to get funding, the Scout Group get a room only half the size of the scout hall, and for only one of each section not two. This means more than half the young people would have to leave the Scout Group under the Parish Council plans.
The footprint of the New Pavilion does not cover the Scout Hut, it can be built leaving the Scout Hut in place. The Parish Council proposal must be changed so it works.
Saving the Scout Hut still lets the New Pavilion be built. The Parish Council want a skate park of 400-700m2 elsewhere on the field, so why not a scout hut of less than 150m2?
Vote YES to show North Hinksey Parish Council that they need to change their plans. It’s a non-binding vote but it will show them their plan needs to be altered so their project can work.
Vote YES to support the young people of the area, they need your support.
Vote YES, because a plan that works for the Scout Group works for the whole community. The community loses out when it loses the biggest youth group in the area.
This Table shows what the 4th Oxford Scout Group needs to operate, what this would cost in the New Pavilion (almost £10,000 p/a), and just how much less the Parish Council are actually offering the Scout Group (it is offering nothing that comes close to being feasible).
This Plan shows that the Scout Hut does not need to be demolished. It also shows the Small Hall that has been offered to the Scout Group for three sessions a week, with only one session in the Main Hall.
